What is the secret of the sea at Bergeggi? No one knows, but once you leave Savona and its port behind, after two bends in the road, the turquoise seafront, white cliffs and islet of Bergeggi appear. Under the sea is a world of a thousand colours, rarely seen even in tropical seas. The colour of the sea is the highlight of this stretch: bright blue-green, transparent under the sun's rays. All sports are possible: canoeing, beach volleyball, windsurfing, snorkelling and diving to discover the seabed, explore caves and grottos, such as the Grotta del Treno, a karst cave over 400 metres long, now accessible by guided tours. To protect this wild and wonderful stretch of coastline, with hidden coves carved into the rock, including Punta Prodani and Lido delle Sirene, the island of Bergeggi, now a Marine Protected Area, is one of the most evocative in Liguria. There are sites for every type of dive here, with seabeds suitable for beginners. Like Bergeggi, Spotorno is also a favourite seaside resort for young people and families. The beach establishments along the Merello and in the town centre are all equipped with children's play areas, canoes, beach volleyball, pedal boats and diving centres, and in the evening they offer the possibility of dining on the beach, pieds dans l'eau. The beauty of the village and its surroundings inspired the poetry of Camillo Sbarbaro, who spent his childhood here and decided to spend the last part of his life here.
